Tonic.ai was born out of a very tangible, practical need: equipping developers with high-quality, realistic data for development and testing. This may make us sound like just another developer tool, but at the core of that need is our belief for why it truly matters. We wholeheartedly believe that data privacy is a human right.
It isn’t just about complying with the latest regulation. It’s about helping organizations treat data the way we’d like our own data to be treated. With the ever-expanding presence of AI, the importance of safe data handling is only more urgent.

2018
Tonic.ai was founded, raised its seed funding, and landed its first customers for structured data de-identification
2020
Raised Series A funding to expand our team in support of our growing customer base
2021
Raised Series B funding to invest in research and development to further our product line beyond structured test data
2022
First full-company off-site with 70+ employees, strengthening connections across our remote-first teams
2023
Expanded team to EMEA with our first UK hires in support of customers overseas
Launched Tonic Textual, our platform for unstructured data synthesis to drive AI model training and LLM workflows
